See Us for an Appointment

At the Anacapa Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center, we welcome all patients to our office. We do not require a referral from your dentist or physician in order to meet you for a consultation.

Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation where we can understand your needs, examine you, and discuss your diagnosis and treatment options. Occasionally, circumstances of a more urgent nature require that surgery be done the same day as the consultation. However, generally after a review of your medical history and a discussion regarding your needs, a second appointment is necessary to provide your actual treatment.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

Your surgical referral slip containing your dentist's notes to Dr. Stout

Any applicable X-rays

A list of medications you're presently taking

Completed dental insurance forms. This will save time and allow us to process any claims. If you're enrolled in a closed-panel insurance, check with us to find out about the insurance coverage for your first visit. A preauthorization may be required for a visit to be covered by your carrier.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the consultation visit.

Insurance and Financial Information

At the Anacapa Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center, we make every effort to provide you with the finest surgical care and the most convenient financial options. To accomplish this, we work hand in hand with you to maximize your insurance reimbursement for covered procedures. Although insurance does not always cover all the treatment your general dentist or Dr. Stout may recommend, we will do our best to help you obtain the maximum benefit from your insurance. If you have any problems or questions about your insurance, please ask our staff. They are well informed on dental insurance matters and can be reached by phone during weekdays at (805) 981-8144. Please bring your insurance information with you to the consultation so that we can expedite reimbursement.

For your convenience we accept Visa and MasterCard. Since our goal is to deliver the finest care at the most reasonable cost to our patients, payment is due at the time service is rendered unless specific arrangements have been made in advance. We work with a very friendly finance company, and we are happy to make arrangements for a monthly payment plan to cover your treatment costs; however, this must be set up prior to the actual procedure date. If you have questions regarding your account or statement, please contact us. Usually, a simple telephone call will clear up any questions or misunderstandings.

Once we provide care for you where we are expecting insurance coverage, we will send you a monthly statement. Most insurance companies will respond within four to six weeks. Please remember you are fully responsible for all fees charged by this office regardless of your insurance coverage. Any remaining balance after either your insurance has paid, or after 45 days have passed is your responsibility.

Since we arrange our staffing to accommodate the appointment you have made, please notify our office if you will be unable to keep that appointment so that we may utilize that time to provide treatment to other patients. There are charges for failed appointments or short notice cancellations. We generally call to reconfirm your appointment 2 days prior. Appointment cancellations cannot be accepted by our after hours phone message or by e-mail.

Preoperative Instructions

In order to make your treatment experience as pleasant as possible and to allow us to provide you with the highest level of care, we ask that you read and note the following tips about your surgery appointment:

  1. Wear loose-fitting clothing with short sleeves (so that we can more easily take your blood pressure). It's best if you leave jewelry and even contact lenses at home. Brush your teeth thoroughly just prior to your appointment.
  2. Unless Dr. Stout has specified otherwise, take your prescribed medications at your normal schedule. Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to surgery. It's best not to smoke for several weeks prior to surgery, as smoking can greatly increase the risks of problems during the healing phase. Inform the doctor if you have ever used any recreational drugs, especially within the last 6 months.
  3. Notify Dr. Stout if you have a change in your health or begin any new medication prior to your surgery.
  4. Take 600 mg of ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Nuprin) the night before surgery. This decreases the postoperative pain. Don't take this medication if your regular physician has advised you to avoid nonsteroidal medications.

If you will be given intravenous sedation anesthesia, please also note the following:

  1. Don't take any food or fluids for at least 8 hours prior to your surgery, not even water. However, unless Dr. Stout has specifically instructed you otherwise, take your normally prescribed medications with just a sip of water.
  2. A responsible adult must accompany you to the office and remain present in the office during your procedure (in case an emergency of any sort is encountered) and drive you home. After surgery, there must be an adult available to pick up prescriptions and assist you that day in your postoperative care at home.
